Hysteroscopy
A hysteroscope is a telescope with a camera introduced into the cavity of the uterus (womb) through the vagina and cervix to look for any abnormality. The equipment may be used to visualise the cavity of the uterus (diagnostic hysteroscopy) and is usually combined with a biopsy of the lining. It may also be used to insert surgical instruments to operate within the uterine cavity, called operative hysteroscopy. There is no cut on the abdomen.
Endometrial polyps and submucosal fibroids are surgically treated under hysteroscopic guidance.
