Endometrial polyp
What is an endometrial polyp
An endometrial polyp is an overgrowth of cells of the lining of the uterus (endometrium). Polyps are usually noncancerous (benign), although a few may eventually turn into cancer (precancerous polyps). They range in size from a few millimetres to about 2 cm.

How do I know that I have an endometrial polyp
Symptoms of an endometrial polyp may include spotting in between periods and painful periods with cramps. An endometrial polyp increases the risk of miscarriage both after spontaneous conception and after IVF. Endometrial polyps can be detected on a pelvic ultrasound examination.
Should I be worried about an endometrial polyp
It is very rare for an endometrial polyp to be cancerous, especially in young women. If you have no problems with painful, heavy periods, and the polyp is found accidentally on a scan for other reasons, it may not need removing at all. When symptoms are present, the polyp is best removed surgically, as it has been shown that 1.5% of endometrial polyps may be premalignant.
How is an endometrial polyp removed
Treatment of an endometrial polyp is surgical and involves passing a small camera through the vagina and the cervix into the uterine cavity and removing the polyp, a procedure called hysteroscopic resection of endometrial polyp.
